A man has appeared in court charged with the murders of six children who died in a house fire in Derby.

Paul Mosley, 45, of Cecil Street, Derby, was remanded into custody at the city's magistrates' court.

Jade Philpott, 10, brothers John, nine, Jack, eight, Jessie, six, and Jayden, five, died in the fire in May. Duwayne, 13, died three days later.

The children's parents, Mick Philpott, 55, and wife Mairead, 31, have previously been charged with murder.

The blaze broke out in Victory Road, Allenton, on 11 May.

Mr Mosley, who was arrested on Monday, will appear with Mr and Mrs Philpott at Nottingham Crown Court on Thursday.

A 49-year-old man who was arrested alongside Mr Mosley has been released without charge.

Assistant Chief Constable Steve Cotterill said: "Our investigation will continue in an effort to gain justice for these children."
