Brian Shivers has been found not guilty of the Real IRA murder of two soldiers in 2009.

Sappers Mark Quinsey, 23, from Birmingham, and Patrick Azimkar, 21, from London, were shot at Massereene army base, Antrim, on 7 March.

They had ordered pizza and left the base to collect it at about 21:20 GMT when they were attacked by two gunmen.

Mr Shivers, 47, was cleared of all charges.

The soldiers were murdered only hours before they were due to fly to Afghanistan with the 38 Engineer Regiment.

Four other people were seriously injured in the shooting.

They were the first soldiers to be murdered in Northern Ireland since Lance Bombardier Stephen Restorick was killed by an IRA sniper in 1997.
