Dave Lee Travis: "No soundbites"
Former BBC Radio 1 presenter Dave Lee Travis has appeared in court, charged with 11 counts of indecent assault and one of sexual assault.
The allegations date from 1977 to 2007 and relate to nine female complainants aged between 15 and 29 at the time.
The 68-year-old, of Mentmore, Bucks, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court under his real name, David Patrick Griffin. He denies wrongdoing.
Mr Travis was bailed to appear at Southwark Crown Court on 6 September.
His solicitor Martin Bale indicated he would be pleading not guilty.
The former DJ spoke in court only to confirm his name, address and date of birth, and to query what the next hearing would involve.
Addressing reporters outside earlier, Mr Travis said he could not comment on the case against him, adding: "I'd like to speak for three hours to everybody to tell you the story."
He later said: "I either talk for a long time or I don't, and at the moment I'm not talking."
Mr Travis, a Radio 1 DJ between 1968 and 1993, had been questioned by police as part of Operation Yewtree, an investigation into historical claims of sexual offences linked to the entertainment industry.
He was first arrested in November 2012 and released on bail. He was rearrested in March and questioned about further allegations before being charged earlier in August.
Operation Yewtree was launched in the wake of sexual offence allegations against ex-TV presenter and Radio 1 DJ Jimmy Savile.
The operation has three strands. One is looking specifically at the actions of Savile and the second strand concerns allegations of sexual offences against "Savile and others".
Mr Travis's arrest falls within a third strand, relating to allegations against other people unconnected to the Savile investigation.
